Here are 10 suggestions for new music similar to classic sounds, from Alon Libman, chief musicologist for MeeMix.com and music analysts at Pandora.com (if you live in Canada you’ll find you can’t access – for those of you in the U.S. have a look)

If you like …

Bob Dylan, try Bright Eyes. Front man Conor Oberst has great storytelling skills. Another option is Destroyer.

Aretha Franklin, try Amy Winehouse. She brilliantly revives the sounds of classic Motown.

Bruce Springsteen, try the Arcade Fire. Springsteen’s E Street Band was influential to the production of Fire’s second CD. Also try Smog.

Sly & the Family Stone, try Jamiroquai. The group mixes original soul sounds and funk grooves with contemporary beats.

Creedence Clearwater Revival, try the Black Crowes. They have a Southern-rock sound.

The Rolling Stones, try Doyle Bramhall. His work features bluesy guitar riffs, rock influences and prominent solos.

Bonnie Raitt, try Tift Merritt. She has a slight Southern twang, soulful vocals and uses slide guitars.

Simon & Garfunkel, try Iron & Wine. He features prominent acoustic-guitar fingerpicking, breathy vocals and folk influences.

Led Zeppelin, try the White Stripes. They use heavy guitar riffs, aggressive drumming and blues-based harmonies.

James Brown, try Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings. Danceable funk grooves, prominent horns, dynamic vocals.
